Baryte / Barite

The name Baryte comes from the Greek word “Barys,” meaning heavy. It has an unusually high specific gravity for a non-metallic mineral. Baryte is chemically inert and insoluble, but is soft with a hardness of only 3-3.5 on Moh’s Hardness Scale. It is usually white or colorless (transparent). However, variations of Baryte include Gray Baryte, Yellow Baryte, Blue Baryte, Red Baryte and Brown Baryte.

We are a well-known Barytes manufacturer and supplier in domestic and international markets. We offer our customers the finest quality of Baryte which is used in medical, manufacturing and industrial applications.

APPLICATIONS:

• Drilling Industry

Baryte is commonly used to add weight to drilling fluid. It increases the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud allowing it to compensate for high-pressure zones experienced during drilling. The softness of the mineral also prevents it from damaging drilling tools during drilling and enables it to serve as a lubricant. Baryte is of significance to petrophysicists because excess baryte can require a correction factor in some well log measurements.

• Rubber Industry

Baryte is used as filler and extender in rubber products. It is being utilised to increase the life of the rubber product and also increase the durability. It also increases the strength of the product and makes it resistant to acid and alkali.

• Paint Industry

Baryte is replacement to basofor, crypton, titanium dioxide, and monox which are used for filling. It is very useful in regulating the thickness of the paint, increasing the stability of the paint and adding more brightness. It is efficient as an extender for primers. It is highly useful in giving smoothness to the undercoats and chemical resistance to the walls, thereby ensuring beautiful smooth walls. Being insoluble in water, it has high resistance to acids and alkalis.

• Cosmetics

Baryte, because of its gentleness , is very popular in the cosmetics industry. It is widely used in the cosmetics and a wonderful substitute to titanium dioxide.

• Pharmaceutical

An application where many people have heard of baryte is within the medical field. A high-purity form of baryte is used in the gastrointestinal tract where its density prevents x-ray penetration, and thus is visible on an x-ray. The outline of the gastrointestinal tract thus becomes visible allowing the determination of normal and abnormal anatomy.

• Plastic

Baryte can be widely used as a filler for PP, PVC, ABS, PA and PET plastics. It is very effective in improving the abrasive strength, stiffness and intensity, thereby making it stronger in strength and attractive in appearance.

• Paper

Baryte powder is used in the paper industry for its high levels of whiteness. Thus, white paperboards and coat paper are filled with high-refined barites powder.
